Over the past 60 years, many thousands of taxi drivers have donated time and effort to make the annual children's outing the great success that it is. Every driver involved spends a lot of time "dressing" his/her taxi with balloons; some even disguise the taxi as a car or a boat, even a spaceship has been seen on the day!! Some drivers don fancy dress to compliment the taxi decoration.
It is a wonderful sight to behold as the column of brightly coloured taxis, complete with police motorcycle outriders for "protection" wends its way from Murrayfield Stadium, stopping at Musselburgh for an icecream break, then on through Prestonpans, Port Seton & Cockenzie, Aberlady, Gullane; finally arriving at Yellowcraig beach in Dirleton, much to the delight of the children and the people who line the route.
The outing takes place on the 2nd Tuesday in June, leaving Murrayfield at 10am, arriving at Yellowcraigs about 1pm. The return journey leaves Yellowcraigs around 4pm.
If you’d like to make a donation, cheques, made payable to “Edinburgh Taxi Trade Children’s Outing”, can be sent to
